The Confucius Classroom program is an annual grant toward the continual promotion of the Chinese language and culture. The main focus of the Confucius Classroom is to not only promote the Chinese culture and language within the classroom, but to reach beyond and engage the communities in which they reside. Developing community language and culture programs within the community creates a harmonious environment and creates partnerships with business, and other educational sectors. Presently, the Confucius Institute at WKU has 13 classroom.
The Confucius Classroom is a dedicated space within your school, organization, or community partner designated for the ongoing promotion of the Chinese language and culture. To qualify, there must be an existing Chinese language program within your community. The program consists of a grant of up to $10,000 annually toward the development of outreach programming. For consideration, please submit the following to (original paperwork) Mr. Terrill Martin, Confucius Institute, 2413 Nashville Road, Suite C2, Bowling Green, KY 42101:
Submit a 3 – 5 page proposal outlining the following:
- How long your community has had a language program;
- Demographics about your schools, and community;
- The types of programming you wish to initiate;
- How you intend to market, and increase the program.
Submit a letter (on your organization letterhead), signed by your President, Superintendent, Principal or administrator within your organization. The letter should be addressed to:
- Mr. Huo Fuhai, Division of Development, Hanban/Confucius Institute Headquarters, 129 Deshangmenwai Street, Xicheng District, Beijing 100088, China
Once the originals of the above have been received, they will be submitted to Hanban/Confucius Institute Headquarters for approval.
